Ecobunker Shipping Co., Ltd. was established in November, 2018, for the achievement of the target of “reducing the total annual GHG emissions from international shipping by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008” as in the GHG reduction strategy, which the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted based on Paris agreement, aiming to promote LNG, which is regarded as next generation’s environmentally-friendly marine fuel and expected to play a very important role in the future.
Our business is to own and operate an LNG bunkering vessel, under the “Ship-to-Ship (STS) LNG Bunkering Project in Tokyo Bay”, which was adopted as LNG bunkering hub formation project by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in Japan. This year, 2022, our LNG Bunkering Vessel “Ecobunker Tokyo Bay” is delivered and ready to start full-scale operation.
Our JV partners, Uyeno Transtech Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation, Yokohama-Kawasaki International Port Co., Ltd., and Development Bank of Japan Inc. are all from different business sectors, working together with a clear division of roles, each partner effectively exercising their strength within those roles and making synergies, for the development of LNG bunkering hub in Tokyo bay.
We altogether aim to contribute to the achievement of SDGs and decarbonized society with the reduction of the environmental impact from maritime industries accompanied by the worldwide growing availability of LNG bunker fuel and also adding strength on the international competitiveness of our Japanese ports.
