Ecobunker Shipping Co., Ltd. was established in November 2018 in order to promote liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a promising transitional energy option that can help achieve the global campaign to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The use of LNG fuel in shipping is spreading worldwide, along with rapidly growing expectations that the shipping industry reduce its environmental impact. Over 850 LNG-fueled vessels are currently in operation worldwide, and this number is expected to reach 1,500 by 2030. Japan is also phasing in its Green Transformation Emissions Trading System (GX-ETS), with full-scale operation scheduled to begin in fiscal 2027. As carbon pricing gains traction, LNG is becoming an increasingly important practical option for supporting the transition to a decarbonized world.
Given these conditions, we are also committed to the realization of ship ownership and operation under the Ship-to-Ship (STS) LNG bunkering project in Tokyo Bay, which has been adopted as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s initiative to establish LNG bunkering hubs in Japan. Safety is our top priority in carrying out business operations, and with the valuable support of relevant government agencies, local governments, and various institutions, we are working to establish a safe and stable fuel supply system.
In addition, we bring the expertise and strengths of our four investors — Uyeno Transtech Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation, Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corporation, and the Development Bank of Japan, Inc. — to the formation of the LNG bunkering hub in Tokyo Bay. Our aim is to contribute to the broader use of LNG fuel, thereby reducing the shipping industry’s environmental impact, helping to achieve the SDGs, and supporting the transition to a decarbonized world, while also enhancing the international competitiveness of Japan’s ports.
Going forward, we remain committed to providing high-quality services that earn our customers’ trust by ensuring a safe, stable supply of fuel in Tokyo Bay.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support and patronage.
